Resilience and responding positively to change

Resilience is the ability to bounce back, respond positively to change at work and at home and develop personal coping mechanisms to help reduce and manage stress. Resilience is not a trait that people either have or do not have. It involves behaviours, thoughts, and actions that can be learned and developed.

Employees can build their own resilience by maintaining a flexible attitude and a sense of purpose and developing an awareness of positive lifestyle changes that can enhance their health and well-being.

Managers can also have a positive impact on building employee resilience by helping support their staff to stay focused and productive through changing times and encouraging them, through consultation, to become directly involved in shaping the future and managing the challenges this brings .

For more information please see the responding positively to change page.
