Help our NHS colleagues and 'choose well'

When summer comes we look forward to many things like sunshine, holidays and being outdoors. But summer can also bring with it a whole range of health problems, from hayfever and bee stings to food poisoning from a dodgy barbecue.

By choosing how to manage these sorts of health problems correctly, you can help save lives. Two million people who go to A&E could either self-care or have been treated elsewhere in the community. The estimated cost of treating people who go to A&E but who could have either self-treated or gone elsewhere, is £136 million a year. For this money, we could employ 6,500 more nurses.

What's more, 12 percent of people admit to having used A&E in the past even when they knew there was nothing seriously wrong with them.

When it comes to minor injuries and ailments this summer, your local NHS have got you covered. For more information on how to Choose Well visit www.choosewell.org.uk
